Tornado Outbreak :: May 10, 2010

Of course I Flip!

Norman had an eventful afternoon.  As part of my Oklahoma life, you learn to live with tornadoes.  I’ve grown to really love them. Instead of taking cover, I’m normally outside in the front yard seeing what’s happening.  I mean if a tornado were really coming, I wouldn’t be outside watching it.  Although, I did that last summer.  I’m not quite sure how many tornadoes touched down in my home state today, but Norman blew the sirens 4 times and if my count is correct we had between 4-6 tornadoes touch down.  A few of them were a mile from the house, but there were also a few that touched down less than a mile from us too.  Norman was definitely hopping this afternoon!

Another shot of a tornado rain wrapped somewhere over there.  You can’t see it, but you do see people standing on the corner watching it go by.  Only in Oklahoma….

Tornado Outbreak just kicking off.  I kept getting excited when they’d touch down just North or South of us.  Don’t worry, I quickly became disappointed when they became rain wrapped and you couldn’t see what was going on.  Talk about major disappointment.

Follow-Up to Snow, Snow, Go Away

I shot this with my phone on 1/29, I didn’t have my Flip on me and my phone was easily accessible as it was in my hand.  It’s not quite to where it was at on Christmas Day this year, but it got close.  Hopefully this is our very last snow until next year.  Sure wish all the school closings affected me this year, but since I opted for more online classes than regular ones and my electricity is still on, there’s nothing I can do – still have to go to “class”.

I’m getting ready to bundle myself up & go play with Ellie in the backyard.  Wish us luck.

Snow….Snow…Go Away

Roomie & I took a trip to town today.  It was an eventful day to say the least.  We’re okay.  Everything is okay.  I would just prefer not to trek out in this storm any more.  It’s currently 8:20 & it’s still snowing.  I think it’s time to start wishing this snow away.  I have things to do & places to go.  I hate it when things are closed & I can’t go anywhere.  Drives me insane.

Here are some photos of today.  Look for a few videos later, I’m working on rendering them into a different format.

On our way to the destination.  Seemed like it took forever to make it less than 3 miles.

Robinson Street, Crazy isn’t it?
Sitting & Waiting
Driving….Driving…Driving…
not to worry, I was going less than 15mph
the Trashcans will not move beyond where they’re at…
it took a lot for me to move the one behind the Roomie’s car
You can’t even see the actual road or the sidewalks in my neighborhood.
Fresh Snow….makes me want to go skiing

Ellie's Experience with Snow

I took Ellie out yesterday in the snow & she had a BLAST!  I don’t think she knew what to think about this new Winter Wonderland.  After awhile she got used to it & just went with the flow bouncing over the tricky places in the snow.  She was fun to watch, despite the fact that I had to give her a warm bath after our fun in the snow to wash all those snow balls off.  I’m thinking I just might make a snowman tomorrow…or an igloo.  We’ll just have to wait & see!

We Got a White Christmas Afterall

Well it’s 8:00PM and it’s STILL snowing!  I could barely make it out my back door to let Ellie go out & do her business.  I had to shovel at least 30 minutes so her feet would actually touch the ground (I had already shoveled earlier today).

Ellie Romping in the Snow…

I wanted to see what Ellie would do in the snow, so I stuck her in it!

10inches…Really?

Ellie is dying to go out & take care  of business….meanwhile I’m logging in photos the great amounts of SNOW we’re getting here in Norman.  It’s amazing & I’ve never seen Oklahoma get anything like this!  I took the photos at 3:15 PM.

It's Really Comin' Now

In a matter of minutes from my last photos – a Blizzard took over.  I wish I was kidding.  There is now a ruler stuck in the snow to see how much snow we do get.  As of 12:30 – the total was 2.5 inches. It’s now 12:50 and it’s well over 2.5 inches, but not at 3 quite yet.

How much more are we going to get?  This doesn’t surpass what I’ve seen, but Gary England is calling for more.  Really, Gary?
It really doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to end.  I’m already tired of seeing white.  I’ll take my brown grass back over this stuff.

Sleet & Snow in Norman

Photos were taken around 9AM and it’s now pushing 11.  There have been talks of shutting I-40 down…because OK is in a Blizzard.  Yep, a Blizzard.  This should be a fun few days of having to stay indoors with my sis.

The backyard.  It doesn’t look like much, but supposedly there will be 7 inches on the ground by late tonight.  I’ll believe it when I see it.  Right now I’m just not sure about this Blizzard everyone is predicting.
Looks like a normal snowy Oklahoma day, doesn’t it?  Nothing special about this it doesn’t look bad at all.
The icy frozen road.  You couldn’t pay me to get out and drive on this.  I have mentioned that I cried to get my license, right?  Like I said it’s better if I don’t drive.

a Tornado…in Norman…Say Whaaaa?

I experienced my first real tornado on June 12, 2009 and let me tell you it was an experience.

The touchdown happened around 2 miles directly East of the house.  You could actually see the tornado between the power flashes & lightening.  Although, Roomie & I didn’t truly “see” it until we went for a joy ride in our neighborhood.   Between frantically yelling to hit the gas and turn we wound up back at home, but only after traveling no more than 1/4 of a mile in our neighborhood.   We were probably quite the sight to see.

The tornado did pass over us and no one in Norman was injured.
