Do YOU Flip?

A few months ago I purchased a Flip Ulta.  There was a lot of hype about them around Christmas, so I made the leap off into the unknown.  I must say it’s the easiest video recorder I’ve ever used, literally it’s point and click.  My 5 year old cousin uses it when he visits and loves that he can immediately see the video after he records it, but I think he loves seeing it on my computer when I pull it off.  His face lights up and he says “I did that?”.  My Flip comes in handy when I need it, but it’s also an extra piece of equipment that I have to lug around all day.

Love my Christmas present.  I’ve used it a lot more than I thought I would.  My very tech savvy mother even bought one, actually more than one, and loves using them as well.  It’s easy to go out and shoot something, edit and post.  It’s just that simple.

Because I’m a College Girl :: That’s Why!

I absolutely love kids cereal.  I only get it if I’m on vacation.  I’m not a morning person, nor am I a breakfast person.  I get up, head to class, come home and then have lunch or I just have lunch if I wake up on days I don’t have class.  I do have my cereal addiction though.  Except instead of craving the healthy stuff, like Honey Nut Cheerios – it’s usually Reese’s or CoCo Puffs….but I love Cookie Crisp too.

It’s like eating dessert for breakfast or even ice cream for breakfast.  That’s something my grandparents used to let me do, eat ice cream for breakfast.  I was super spoiled by the time I made it back home and I’m not sure my parents ever understood why.

Don’t judge me.  I’m 25 and I still love kiddo cereal.  I may never grow up, I think I’ll just turn into Peter Pan.  Good thing MM likes Cookie Crisp too, he just hates Soy Milk.  I’ll have him changed over to what I drink in no time.

When You Have Good Ideas

This evening while taking a shower I was thinking exactly how I’m going to finish this huge Blog project I’ve bitten off.  How?  There are so many aspects I want to look at and try.  Many aspects that while I thought about this in the shower, I put conditioner in my hair before the shampoo and then proceeded to shampoo my hair twice.  Oh yes, leave it to me to think so hard that I mess up my shower routine.

I then had the bright idea that I need bath crayons.  I need to jot down my ideas while they’re coming to me in the shower instead of trying to remember them or doing something like Rev. Run would do.  I’m leaving my Crackberry out of the water and opting for something  that doesn’t cost $500 to replace.  Hopefully I can find some bath crayons and finally put an end to this blog mayhem I seemed to have started in my brain.

At least I am thinking.  Thinking I don’t have the money to replace my Crackberry in case the bubbles creep into my phone, or Heaven forbid, I lose my toe grip at the end of the tub and fall into the water; that’s actually happened before.  My feet keep me afloat in the tub, because I’m just not tall enough to lock my legs and hold myself up otherwise.

Here they are!  Hopefully I can find some on a town outing later this week.  I would assume Wal-Mart, so I’ll try there first.  For all you blogging mommas, know where I can find a set of bath crayons?  This college girl needs them and you never know, I might start working out my Calculus equations while I bathe too.  That would be marvelous, wouldn’t it.

I’ll keep ya’ll posted on what I come up with.  Look for photos of my bath tub graffitied later on.  I’m sure I’ll shock the majority of my blog readers with the various I thoughts I have on a daily basis.

Funny Stories from the Car Wash

It really wasn’t an eventful day.  I mean I got out of the house & ran errands.  Roomie decided it would be fun if I dropped her off at class.  It was like JR high all over again.  When I was just a newbie driver,  I had to take not only her, but my brother to school when I first got my license.  What fun was that.  Instead of parking in OU’s lot, I just dropped her off on Elm.  I was able to get an entire 2 errands ran while she was in class.  One of them being the car wash.

Let’s just say that I will not being going to the Kangaroo Car Wash any more.  Seriously.  How is it that I can screw up an automatic car wash? …and not just once but three times!  I sure wish I were kidding.  I don’t make this stuff up people.  The first time I went through, my car jumped the track.  I’ve been to this car wash several times, my car has never just jumped the track.  I didn’t touch the break, didn’t turn the wheel, and I definitely didn’t switch the gears in my car.  No way, no how.  The attendant shuts the wash off & comes to my rescue.  We get my car back on the track & I drive out of the car wash, swing around & give it another try.  A second try.  Again, the same thing happens.  I think it’s just not my day.  I should’ve stayed in bed.  Again, the dude comes to my rescue & I drive around again.  Third time. We devise a plan on how to get my car through without this problem.  I have to hold onto my steering wheel in a certain direction.  Seriously, I love talking on the phone or texting or even turn up my radio super loud and just jam out.  Oh yes, I’m that girl.  I still wound up getting stuck on the third time.  I mean seriously, who gets stuck in an automatic car wash three times?  Crazy.  I did walk away with a semi-clean car.  The guy brought out paper towels & he helped dry off my car.  I’m just going to go to a spray wash later this week and shine up my car, hopefully I won’t have any problems then, but you just never know!

The car wash was enough excitement for me today.  Roomie & I did our grocery shopping.  Needless to say after we were done I had my car loaded with lots of good for you veggies.  I purchased an Eggplant, Butternut Squash, Zucchini, Onions, and a yummy French Onion Soup Mix.  I love eating healthy.

*Roomie did try my Twelve Alarm Chili as Mom has thoughtfully nicknamed it.  She really liked it.  When asked what I used in it, I told her it was a secret.  I actually added 5 or 6 types of beans, 2 cans of Green Chilies, lots of Cayenne, Paprika, 106 ozs. of blended tomatoes, Garlic, an ENTIRE cup of Crushed Red Pepper & other secret ingredients.  It’s probably the BEST Chili I’ve ever made, I swear it’ll blow my Dad’s masterpiece out of the water – except I’d hate to burst his bubble that I have a few concoctions of my own, because you know, he’s a Food Chemist & well you just don’t say things like my recipe is better than yours to a Food Chemist.  I learned that one the hard way.

She's Adorable & Smart

You see, I have this obsession with PINK.  I wish I was kidding….but I can’t help it.  It just so happened I needed a new laptop to start the school year because Gizzy wasn’t up to standards for school.  As my luck would have it, my credit card has a reward system &I qualified for a gift card in quite a hefty amount – so I bought a laptop.
I compared brands back & forth, debated this & that, and even went to the Best Buy store to get a feel for the laptops there.  I am very very picky when it comes to the mouse & keyboard on the computer as well as how accessible every peripheral hook up is on the computer.  I have pity on the poor guy that one day tries to buy me a computer as a gift….poor guy he just doesn’t know what’s coming.   Seriously, I’m obsessed with computers….maybe that’s why I’m going into the field I’m going into?

So I picked this beauty and I have named her Petunia.  She’s a Sony Vaio CW & she’s perfect. Her specs include :: She plays Blu-Ray, she has a Webcam, she has 4GB of RAM & I can upgrade her to 8GB if I’d like.  She also has Bluetooth, and a HDMI port, but most importantly, she IS PINK!!
Hurry UPS Man….

Kitchen Cleaning & Other Womanly Duties

I have been cleaning the kitchen for the past 3 hours.  I wish I could say that our kitchen was always clean, but it isn’t.  I have scrubbed more Crystal Light off the bar than possible.  I’m afraid of it staining the grout and thankfully none of it has.  I am nearly complete with this task of deep cleaning the Kitchen and then I will call it quits & head to bed.  I’m glad I’m finally making progress and getting things back in order just in time for school to start.

A minor mishap occurred earlier today.  Our Washing Machine broke.  I sure wish I was kidding.  I mopped up all the water that had leaked out of the bottom.  I pulled it out & left it alone for a bit…then took a long nap.  I managed to FIX whatever was broken.  After unplugging the washer & unhooking all the things that attach to it, I stuck my hand up under it (I’m brave) and tightened a few things – I’m assuming screw type things – and that fixed it.  I’m becoming quite the handy woman around the house these days.

Along with fixing things & cleaning I have gathered all the Christmas stuff up & will tackle putting it all away tomorrow.  I have to get boxes out of the attic & put everything back up.  I am very happy I didn’t drag a lot out, because I’m the one having to put it all away.

Just another few more weeks until school starts.  I’m looking forward to the end of this semester :-)   I will be graduating – just not “walking” which is perfectly fine with me.  Hello Associates, next step Bachelors….only a little over a year left of school & I’m DONE…..

well until I decide to get my Masters in something…..

the Poppy Painting

What is it that I was up to for over a week?  Why this!  I finished it a few weeks ago and I need a frame.  It’s a painting I did of Poppies.  It’s not my favorite, but I stayed up several nights painting til the sun came up.  I honestly had no idea what time it was, I was have THAT much fun painting.  Mom calls it my stress reliever & I think she’s right.  Although, I’m not too sure what else I can paint for my room – I’m not allowed to repaint the walls because we will wind up selling the house one day.  For now though – I’ll just cover the walls in various pictures & decor using push pins.

It Comes in Hot Pink

I found what I want for Christmas & it comes in Hot Pink!  While shopping for some new Shox I came across this little gizmo.  It’s called the Nike+ SportBand.  It will tie into my iPod Touch & keep track of all my jogging process.  I’ve been trying to jog every night or at least walk when my muscles are beyond sore.  It’s taken me awhile to get up to a good pace & I’m still working on it, but 2 months after my trip to NYC I’m amazed I am pushing myself to do this!!  It did take a couple of tries to get up to jogging half of my neighborhood, I’m still working on the full thing – but for now I’ll keep pushing until I can get the whole thing down.  Pretty impressive considering I haven’t been able to jog in over a year!

the Nike+ SportBand… in HOT PINK!!

Master Bathroom Overhaul

After 3 years of living in the same house in Norman I decided it was finally time to pick a theme and decorate my bathroom.  It all started with the shower curtain & just grew from there.

Slowly but surely, my bathroom is transitioning.  It’s starting to look like a livable space, which excites me even further.  I spend a majority of my time in the bathroom in the mornings getting ready and I am going to love getting ready now.

A project that took me several days to complete.  They took much longer than I anticipated, but I got them done.  Yes, they’re completely original and no one has anything like how I’ve created.  Great, huh?

The finishing touches.  I believe I have added as much as I can to my bathroom.  I don’t think anything else will fit in my bathroom that has Zebra qualities or has the qualities that my bathroom has now.  I love how I get excited over my bathroom.

Lowes Inspired: Hall Artwork

Flipping through magazines you realize you can do some of that yourself…which is what Roomie & I did.  Lowes will cut any board you ask them to, granted you buy the wood from them.  We figure stuff out rather quickly when it comes to this do it yourself kind of stuff.

To make them: Paint your board solid brown.  Lay a Rubber Fancy Rug across those boards and then spray paint antique white and you’re done.  That’s all we had to do to create this masterpiece.

And it Was Love…

I got a new toy before we headed to the beach.   It’s the BEST purchase I’ve made in awhile, so happy I bought it.  64GB’s of Music, Video, App fun!!

…I suggest you purchase one of these…it’s life changing

Sounds from Africa

I will function on about 5 hours of sleep today.  Considering I have to be at school around 2 to meet up with my study group, my day is not fairing well thus far.

Gizmo should be sent to the naughty chair for the next few hours.  But he won’t.

The events that transpired to the complete dislike of Gizmo are as follows.

The African sounds that blast from my computer speakers on start up went off this morning, along with a “chirping” sound.  It seriously startled me.  I mean I woke up in fright, no clue as to what the heck was going on.   So – a 5AM wake up call was not what I ordered for today, but I got it.  Hopefully the latter part of today will be filled with lots of White Mocha coffees from S. Bucks.

I did figure out where the mix up with Gizmo occurred.   Since, I had decided to update to Ubuntu 8.10 last night, the update changed A LOT of my current settings.   It created alarms for days that I never approved.   Evolution has been perfected and it is a guarantee that Gizmo will not act up tomorrow morning.

Hooray!  Gizmo & I can resume being friends again.

Gizmo is Purty

In the past 24 hours I have done no other than configure my Dell Mini 9.   It has already been nicknamed Gizmo.

I have added apps, deleted apps, and even tweaked apps.

Keep in mind, I’m using Ubuntu Linux, not Windows or even Mac.

I’ve used the terminal, which in windows format is much like the command prompt.

I’ve completely fallen in love with the Synaptic Package Manager.   It compiles a HUGE list of software; games & apps and multiple tools used in the every day computer world.   I’ve done a lot of playing and re-routing with that for the majority of the day.

External Hard Drives are the Best

My computer has been completely redone. The hard drive has been wiped clean and now I must start from scratch. It’s not going to be too bad, given the amazing toy I have.

I purchased a My Book (Western Digital) awhile ago and have been loving it ever since.  I recommend every one purchase this new cheap contraption.  I got a 1 TB (which is 1,000GB (Gigabytes) and it has everything backed up for my computer & Roomie’s too. Pictures, Music, Games & Documents.  You name it, this external hard drive has it on it.

Among having to re-jump my hard drive it has been a non-eventful day. Mom went home earlier today after doing some Norman (city) shopping and finishing her Christmas shopping for Kansas. The rest of the evening will be spent downloading software and such for my computer and getting things back to normal once more.

The game plan for tomorrow will probably entail doing some mild decor work.  Roomie bought a coffee table that needs to be refinished so it can be brought in the house and so our cars can park in the garage. Be on the look out for pictures of some of the new things around the house.

Networking

My laptop is a dream.   I had no idea I would be so protective of this little machine.   I was proud of myself though.

When it came in I set up the entire system and “networked” the old desktop and this laptop together.   I now have all of my files from the old computer on this one.   I’m stoked.  I’ve never been able to do that, and I still don’t know how I did it.

I did do my good deed of the week.   I showed Roomie how to make her own ring tones for her new phone.   The only thing is that I can’t hook her phone up to the computer, I need to troubleshoot it more (yes, I admit I’m a nerd).   We did that last night before we both went to bed.

My NEW Baby!

So I decided to break down and buy a toy to better my education…..

Drum roll please…..

Ruby Red Inspiron 1520 (moderately loaded)

This is my new baby.   It will be on it’s way to MY house tomorrow.  It’s an Inspiron 1520 in Ruby Red.   With 3G’s of RAM & a 160Gigs of Hard Drive space, I’ll be a blowing and a going.   I’ve been wanting one of these puppies for awhile now.   I talked myself out of a Tablet PC (they cost twice as much as this laptop I picked out) and into this computer instead.   Now, I won’t get to write on the screen like a Tablet, but somehow I do not think that I will notice.  Just the simple joy of not having to wait to use to computer until midnight or one AM will be amazing.   Plus, I can get away from the hustle and bustle of my house and finally outside where I can enjoy the day and study and type away on this thing.   Dad will be proud, I can get some FRESH air, enjoy the day and type away at various papers for school.

The only thing is…. it needs a name.  Anyone have any suggestions?   Nothing related to OU, I’m looking for some girly name…

Round up the kids Nic and send me your suggestions!
