A Valentine’s Day Surprise

If you were hoping my Valentine’s Day involved more than just a can of soup like last year, well you’re in luck!  I was a very very lucky girl this year.  Seriously blessed beyond words.  I’m not normally a flowers & chocolates kinda girl, but I’ve gotta admit, getting them sure did put a huge smile on this girls face.  Wow is all I have to say.

My day involved a few surprises.  Like waking up late.  Having a major test postponed.  Kicking butt on my first attempt at making Peppered Steak.  …but all of those didn’t compare to what was to follow and sit in between all of those other accomplishments at least not in my world…..

If you follow me on Instagram…then you’ve already seen these beauties.  I got them a few days ago…with a card that read “Thinking of you.  cover you ears…. You’ll get another surprise in a few days.”  Talk about catching a girl off guard and all before V-Day.  Needless to say…I was wow’d.

Today I come home from school and the delivery man shows up a few minutes later.   Another off guard moment.  I had completely forgot all about my special surprise…completely.  My house smells fabulous, especially my beautiful roses that are sitting on my kitchen table as we speak.

Last but not least, my most favorite gift has gotta be iTunes cards.  Let’s just say I’ve bought my weight in country music albums…Andrew Johnson apps (hello….amazing apps that’ll get me to sleep in the blink of an eye)…and a few silly games for my iPad.  Still have a hefty amount of money left over, any suggestions on what to get next?

Subtle Hints?

What do you get the girl you think has everything?  Well let me just drop you a few subtle hints on some things she just might like.

…you can never go wrong with flowers.  Sure girls may say they’re a waste of money, but in all reality, who doesn’t like getting flowers on Valentine’s Day?  Can honestly say it isn’t this girl!

Let’s get real guys.  If you’ve got any fashion sense, surprise her with an amazing sparkling dress, new heels and some accessories.  Signed.  Sealed.  Delivered.  (I’d kill for those shoes, hint hint.)

I’m a sucker for pink, we almost all know that.  Do something special with flowers for her, I’m sure she’d love it.  Like I said, she isn’t going to hate it.

Turquoise is the new black, well almost.  You can pair it with almost anything and is definitely a bright enough color for me, hint.  Christian Louboutin doesn’t know what’s about to hit him. : )

Every girl needs a cutesy iPhone case.  This one is by Kate Spade (one of my fav designers), but there are plenty out there.  I just love all things that are colorful.

I have no idea what girl wouldn’t have the biggest smile on her face after getting some of these amazing things.  Really.

Sparkly dresses!  This is a top fav in my book.  Love it.

…and if you still find yourself grasping at straws and unsure of what to do…. iTunes gift cards always work.  New Music.  New Apps.  Books for School (and enjoyment).  Who wouldn’t want to get one of these?

Okay guys — you’ve got your lovely suggestions from me, now get after it — you’ve got 7 days left!

The New Years Hangover

For the first time in my life, I decided it would be fun to go out on New Years.  Why?  …because in my 27 years of existence I had never done it.  Honestly, I’ve always dreamed of going to NYC to celebrate one day and hopefully soon.  Maybe next year I’ll fly to NYC…

First…I decided it would be best to try something new with my hair.  Twas a windy night in Oklahoma, why not play around with the wind and do something sexy with my hair this time around?  Yeahhhhh….didn’t think you’d buy into that, but it was worth a shot!

Only in Oklahoma can you ring in the New Year and watch Bull Riding at the same time.  I had a blast doing something different, although, I wasn’t a fan of dancing on that packed dance floor.  There’s no telling how many times I twirled into everyone on the dance floor.

A better shot of the bull pens without all the glitzy lights going.  Yes, I was inside a club with a bull pen.

Taking time out from dancing to catch our breath and DRINK.  You have no idea how dehydrated you can get when you’re out on the dance floor with everyone else having fun.  Funny thing is, I love that you can’t tell just how lovely I actually look.  You see, when the ball dropped the place got just a tad bit wild.  As in, beer was shook & spewed as well as our champagne.  Oh yes y’all.  We’re talking about an Oklahoma girl who rarely drinks being covered in alcohol from head to toe.  Talk about a hot mess.  I’m just thankful that y’all can’t see how sticky or how matted down my hair really is.  Good thing is….I took a shower, even if it was at 3am…

What happens after a night of drinking water?  You stop at IHOP because you’re starving.  That’s what!  No pancakes for me, though.  …although waking up the next morning wasn’t fun at all.

HBD to….ME!

In honor of my birthday….I thought I’d share my favorite artist with y’all.  Surprise….Surprise.  Here’s to another fabulous year

Christmas Time’s A Comin’

Decorating for my favorite holiday kicked off a bit early this year.  It involved a bit of an accident, too.  All is well and I’m happy to report I wound up with NO broken bones, a few bruises and some scuff marks  on my door.  Oh yes, talk about one scary moment.  One that I mentioned to no one until after I had everything out.

The mantle this year.  Not quite the best one I’ve had in this house, but I didn’t feel like dragging every single box out of the attic by myself.  No 9ft. Christmas tree this year y’all, although there’s always next year….

The one tiny tree that I actually have out and decorated is one of my favs.  Yes, those are mini golf balls on my tree.  I do love a good game of golf every now and then.  This just proves how much I love the sport and am looking forward to whacking a few balls this Spring.

It’s Fall Y’all

Spooky.  Halloween is just around the corner.  I’m good & prepared for Fall to be here, are you?  In the meantime, let’s celebrate Halloween shall we?

I {LOVE} My PJ’s

My oh my.  Oh how I love PJs & staying warm.  Actually, I was more excited about the fact that I was never going to freeze to death again.   Being ‘cold blooded’, I tend to freeze all the time.  I sure wish I was kidding…but I’m not.  I love coming home in the fall & slipping into something comfy and warm & I think these will do the trick….along with some wool socks!  Here’s to keeping to cold away for the next few months, I sure don’t need  it  here in Oklahoma!

We Know How to Party

My family loves to have a good time.  It’s written all over our faces just a little to well in some places.  I love my family.  For Papaw’s 80th birthday a few years ago we decided to throw a big bash to ring it in.  I was looking through some old photos and found these.

Drew Boo having a good time.  The chocolate cake was good, at least according to him.  He kept cracking himself up when he’d eat that creamy chocolate frosting.  Until he got it all over his nose, then he really let loose with laughter.

Little Miss Whitney.  Quite the handful and the one kiddo I had to keep from getting into the trash and eating all the cookies on the table.  Pretty sure she had a blast hanging out with me cause I let her do whatever she wanted.  Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do anyway?

Mom caught the photo of me conversing with my Great Uncle and Aunt.  My Uncle is always  haggling me about dating, boys and when I’m getting married.  Hate to break it to him, but it’s 5 years later and I’m still single and still in school.  Gotta graduate soon & find me a man!

I’ve had the camera in my face since I was a kid, so it was no surprise that I wasn’t looking at my Mom.  Yeah.  Nice.  Uncle James was the only one paying attention in this photo.

Cousins!  Having a photo op before the party really started.

Paps and his granddaughters.  We’re the coolest!

I think it’s pretty obvious I come from a family of bird hunters.  Now at almost 85, Paps still bird hunts.

I {heart} My Pearls

I received the last present from both of my Grandparents a month ago.  Turns out Gramps & Grams were doing some shopping in the mall and walked past a jewelry store.  They always walked past jewelry stores and bought Roomie & I something from them.  This time though, Gramps picked out something for Roomie & I for Valentines Day.  I didn’t know what to expect when I opened it, Gramps & Grams were always thinking of their Grandkids.

Surprise?  What’s inside?  I didn’t know what to expect.  But, I soon found out it was something I really wanted for Christmas.  Something I didn’t get myself because I could find the perfect set that looked great on me.

Oh how I adore Pearls.  I completely fell in love with these pearls as soon as I opened them.  They fit perfectly, weren’t too little or too big.  They were the right length and fell just below my collar bone.  I was in awe.  I will always treasure these.  Because it’s the gift my Gramps picked out and the last gift from him.  I even wore them to his funeral on Tuesday.  Grams was the first to comment on them and then had to tell everyone that I was wearing the Pearls Gramps picked out.  Actually I took Roomie’s Pearl earrings because I have double pierced ears, which Grams never knew.  She even asked when I did that and I said my first year of college, but then I got in lots of trouble.  Grams said she wished she would’ve double pierced hers, just never did.

My Valentine’s Wishlist

For Valentine’s Day this year there will be no dates….or car rides…heart shaped chocolate….or kisses.  I’m getting to spend Valentine’s Day completely alone.  I have never gone out on Valentine’s Day and this year will be no exception.  Plain & Simple : it sucks.

But, I’m not going to let this one be about me.  It’s actually CHD Day.  It’s not about the Flowers, Candy, Gifts & Kisses.  It’s about making those who are unaware of what 1 in 100 babies can die from aware.  Aware that the deadliest illness to a child, one which actually ranks above Cancer, is Congenital Heart Defects.  It’s something that is near and dear to me and my hope is that one day those number will be cut in half or eliminated.  I hope that Pediatric Cardiologists realize that these CHD Babies need care well into Adulthood and that they will always need medical care of some sort.  That’s my hope.

I did pick out some cute gifts on what I’d get me if I were getting me a Valentine’s Day gift.

I have a love for cowboy boots.  I haven’t bought new ones in 6 years, but not because I need them.  I hardly ever wear them, my current ones are sitting in the top of my closet waiting for the next big adventure that I’ll have to drag them back out again.  Maybe I should mention I’ve worn them less than ten times?

You know the one place I didn’t visit in NYC….Dylan’s Candy Bar.  I seriously have kicked myself for not going while we were there.  That would’ve been a sight to see in itself.  I will definitely have to go just as soon as I make my second trip to the Big Apple.  That is something I look forward to more than anything, another trip to the Big Apple.  Just can’t contain my excitement.

I love strapless and I love dresses.  If I could afford Anthropologie on my College Girl pay, well I’d shop there constantly.  I completely love Anthropologie, I’m tellin’ ya….l-o-v-e. So yes, black strapless dresses that make a guys heart beat uncontrollably I really really love these types of dresses.

But, since I don’t have plans for Valentines Day, I’ll sit home and drink one of my favorite drinks.  I do love my Framboise…so this evening I will kick back with a bottle of Framboise, a hot bubble bath, and a good movie on the laptop.  This ends my wild evening of Valentines Day.  I’ve got my fingers crossed next year will be better…I mean things can only get better from here, right?

Merry Christmas

I’ve been indoors most of the day, but after awhile I couldn’t take it any more & took Ellie outside to play.  She looooooooves the snow.  Despite sinking into the snow, she’d hop over the “mountains” that we accumulated yesterday.  When I brought her in she had all these snow balls covering her fur, so I gave her a bath & now she’s currently running through the house like a wild woman with her Christmas Bobo.

My laptop didn’t arrive in time for Christmas.  It may get delivered tomorrow, but I have to refuse delivery since it sat in the cold all night and is now at risk for condensation.  I’m still very frustrated with UPS about this issue.  I even have to send my wine fridge back because it was shipped broken.  For now, I’m just going to save my money – spend the Amazon cash on something else & keep on going.

Birthday Recap…

To recap on my 25th this year…

Overall it was a good Birthday.  I got lots of phone calls & messages.  Lots of encouragement about how 25 isn’t a big deal and could actually be a “fun” year.  Oh Joy!  Very thankful my parents didn’t put candles on the cake I got yesterday (cranberry orange coffee cake).  No writing.  No frosting.  No candles.  Yea!  No one had to alert the fire department – a great thing!

I didn’t do much today.  Roomie decided to go to Seminole to see her boyfriend & left me here.  I’m hoping I can convince her to take me out for a Mexican lunch tomorrow with a margarita.  Oh yes, I do hope.  This year was so much better than last year – 10 fold better.

Although I don’t feel any different now – I’m sure I will later on down the road as my jogging obsession grows.

I got this…

Nike+ System that I have used constantly since I got it
Nike Vomero 4′s in PINK because there isn’t any other color, other than Crimson in my world
Hot Red Nike Turmoil’s
Nike+ SportBand ….. in Hot Pink!
…..and in the process of obtaining one of these….
a Sony Vaio CW Edition

Happy Un-Birthday to Me!

Transitioning from 24 to 25 doesn’t sound like a huge deal – but it is on paper!  Holy Cow!  It’s hard to believe a year has gone by – it seemed like it happened in the blink of an eye….literally.  I accomplished so much this year and went places I never thought I’d go (Destin, FL & NYC, NY).  I made some great friends and got another semester under my belt….only a million more to go!  I’m excited to see what takes place this year and I’m looking forward to the new things that are about to come my way.

Mom & Dad came over the night before my birthday and we had Pei Wei – one of Dad’s favorites.  They took Emmie home with them and from what I hear, Joe the Chihuahua, is doing really well with her and they just might hit it off!

Can I pleeeeease be done counting after this?  I know I said that last year, but really, pleeeeease can we be done?

Ellie the Bumble Bee

Ellie the Bumble Bee.  She’s adorable and even though she’s not really a fan of dressing up, but she manages.  She can’t handle the random strangers Trick-or-Treating, but she did well hanging out in the backyard.

Day After Xmas & All Through the House

The Christmas lights are down.  All Christmas decor has been packed away in their respective bins, tubs & bags.  The only monster left to tackle is the enormous Christmas tree.  Life feels a little less cluttered, but I can only imagine what our house will look like next year.  We did get Ellie a new stocking, which matches our matching stockings.  {She is passed out in her crate, belly up at the moment.}

This household arose around 5AM this morning and didn’t quit partying until around 5PM.  Mostly because Roomie left to go to Target and I thought my bed looked GOOD.  It’s now 11:50PM and Roomie  into bed for the first time and I am getting ready to grab the iPod, start a movie and go to sleep.  It’s my nightly ritual, I fall asleep to a movie playing on my iPod.  I have no idea how on Earth I lived without this thing.

Other funny stories from this week have included.

*Dad discovering I have a iPod jack in my G6.  {note: this is not a standard piece of equipment on this model car.  I actually did some handy dandy mechanical work on my own car.}

*Roomie nearly being peed on by Hank.

*How Rudy came to live at our house.

*Finally having the question answered as to why Oklahoma bridges are all torn up.

*Riding pantless from Shawnee to Norman. {all the while having conversations about “what if” a cop pulled us over & if it’d be indecent exposure.}

I’m Done Counting

I turned a whopping 24 today.  I won’t be doing anything exciting.  No birthday cake, candles or parties OR dates.  I’m staying in and will probably be doing some much needed cleaning and laundry.

Oh & for the record, my birthday will not be celebrated next year.  I’m done counting. 24 is as old as I’m ever going to get.

Christmas Came Early for Ellie

For those keeping count.  This is Ellie’s 3rd pet bed.  She totaled the first one we got her.  She started demoing the second one we got her (we took that one back) and now finally we found her one that is indestructable!  Seriously, this pet bed is much better and cooler than both of the beds Roomie & I sleep in at night!  Honestly, did you ever consider giving a dog a bed with memory foam?!  Roomie & I did sit on & lay all over this bed before we gave it to Ellie.
Now the munchkin has found that this new thing to lay on is hers.  I have hardly been able to get her off of it all day.  Lazy bones.  I hear Santa is bringing her a stocking full of toys and chew bones too.
I have no idea what made little miss so tired.  She absolutely loves her new bed and if I can’t find her this is now the first place I look.  If we throw more than one blanket on top of the bed she’ll drag them all over until they’re perfectly positioned and she can curl up under them.  Yes, I said under.  She’s a super spoiled dog and I am willing to admit that.

How Many Christmas Trees Can One House Have?

Target had these goodies on SALE.  A whopping 40% off in store and a 20% off coupon we found online.  Roomie & I each got trees, one for my bathroom and one for the front room.  Now, we’ve just gotta buy our lights for the house for next year and we’ll be ALL set. (We will get them after Christmas so they’re 75% off).   Oh yes, what SMART college girls we are!

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

We’ve flipped & flopped & flipped & flopped so more.  We have a total of 9 Christmas Trees living in our house.  One in the living room, one in the attic & two outside.  We’re a household without children, so why is it that we have sooo many Christmas trees?!  Beats me.  They’re pretty I guess.

Here is a glimpse of what Roomie & I have been up to.

The gorgeous trees that were adorned in brown & champagne ornaments have moved outside.  Our neighborhood has a decorating contest and well, our house needed some more pizazz.

The front still looks somewhat bare, but it’s better than last year!

This Giant Green Monster is what Roomie & I acquired yesterday evening.  It’s massive.  I can’t believe it fits in our house.

Since we’re college students, we cheaply decorated our tree.  A tree topper that doubles as a wall decoration.  Tulle from Wal-Mart {so we didn’t have to buy more ornaments}.  And the ornaments from the 2 trees that are now located on the front porch.  What you don’t see is the tree skirt which is just fabric from Hobby Lobby & 2 stars that were tree toppers on the other 2 trees.  Yep, We did GOOD!

Thanksgiving 2008 Atwood, OK

It all started with Papaw and Nanny.  They didn’t live too far apart from each other, so therefore when visiting our family for Thanksgiving we don’t have to travel too far between the two places.  Atwood and Allen, two completely different towns only 10 minutes apart.  We tend to spend lunch at my cousin’s house in Allen then head to Atwood to chit chat with more family and then back to Allen for dinner.  That’s how my Thanksgiving goes.  Lots of talking, hugs and smiles.  I love my family and wouldn’t change them for anything.

Gathering round the fire drinking coffee.  Oh yes, this is a divine way to spend Thanksgiving with the family.

The younger generation showed up and I hadn’t seen them since they were shorter than I am.  Now they’re passing the 6ft mark and I have yet to hit the 5ft mark.  Somehow I don’t think I’ll ever hit 5ft, but the boys are still growing.
