I Always Wanted to Be a Doctor

There was a time in my life when I wanted to be a doctor…a Pediatric Cardiologist (for reasons a majority of y’all know) and then that field became too real, so I flipped to being a Pediatrician.  I had everything all planned out and I even shadowed a Pediatrician out in Pembroke, NC and fell in love with the aspect of treating children.  I love kids, why wouldn’t I want to make them feel better when they’re sick?  I sat in on a few classes, took Pre-Med classes in college (this should explain why it’s taken me forever to graduate) and even went to a few medical workshops.

Attending a medical conference proved to be one of the most amazing and eye opening experiences I’ve gone through.  Getting to have fun with fellow MD’s and DO’s….who wouldn’t want to partake in that adventure?

Most importantly though, I met some pretty amazing friends, from all over the country actually.  I still keep in contact with about 90% of my group from this summer, which is astounding because this conference was nearly 7 years ago.

I’m pretty sure the camera found me just about wherever I was.  Thank goodness for digital back then.

On the way to the Mall of America via public transit.  Major fun in the twin cities y’all.  Had a blast meeting and making new friends.

On a “night off” from workshops and lectures, a huge group of us decided to go on the town.  At the time it was a bar called the Wild Onion.  Crazy, huh?

…still the Wild Onion.  Let’s just say I had a blast and had nothing to drink that night.  I think I was a newly minted 21 year old, too.  Pure Craziness.

Last group shot with the girls that evening, we all had fun getting to know each other during our trip.

Found a pair of goggles on our boat that night, so in true Erin fashion I had to put them on.  Talk about goofy all while having fun with my friends. : )

Getting ready to dock, head to the hotel and head out to the bar.  Last night in MN, you’ve gotta do it up big, right?!

Another partial group shot.  We took so many of these that week, seriously was one of the best times in my life being Pre-Med, but I made an even better decision career wise and can’t wait to see what journey it takes me on.

Our hotel was somewhere in the background.  We stayed at one of the fanciest hotels I had ever stayed in and we all had a blast.  Pretty sure I called home just so I could say I was staying in a Trump Hotel.

Our conference director.  He set up all the yet to be in med school applicants and directed my group on which lectures to sit in on and who to rub elbows with.

What our lovely paddle boat looked like sort of.    How many of y’all can say you’ve traveled a portion of the Great Mississippi?  I have.

Relaxing on the boat and taking in the scenery.  I had never been that far north, so this was a completely different experience especially since it was my first ever plane trip.  Talk about an exciting time in my life.

Me & Ash.  We’re still just as close as we were here.  We’ve moved.  Traveled across the US.  But always kept in contact (thank you Facebook!!) through the years.

St. Paul in the background and us looking completely silly.  I sure miss those days…

Now you can’t leave a medical conference without going to the Mall of America at least once while you’re “in town”, that would just be horrible.  If I remember correctly, I made at least half a dozen trips and even left my digital camera in a dressing room (that I later recovered thank goodness).

The New Years Hangover

For the first time in my life, I decided it would be fun to go out on New Years.  Why?  …because in my 27 years of existence I had never done it.  Honestly, I’ve always dreamed of going to NYC to celebrate one day and hopefully soon.  Maybe next year I’ll fly to NYC…

First…I decided it would be best to try something new with my hair.  Twas a windy night in Oklahoma, why not play around with the wind and do something sexy with my hair this time around?  Yeahhhhh….didn’t think you’d buy into that, but it was worth a shot!

Only in Oklahoma can you ring in the New Year and watch Bull Riding at the same time.  I had a blast doing something different, although, I wasn’t a fan of dancing on that packed dance floor.  There’s no telling how many times I twirled into everyone on the dance floor.

A better shot of the bull pens without all the glitzy lights going.  Yes, I was inside a club with a bull pen.

Taking time out from dancing to catch our breath and DRINK.  You have no idea how dehydrated you can get when you’re out on the dance floor with everyone else having fun.  Funny thing is, I love that you can’t tell just how lovely I actually look.  You see, when the ball dropped the place got just a tad bit wild.  As in, beer was shook & spewed as well as our champagne.  Oh yes y’all.  We’re talking about an Oklahoma girl who rarely drinks being covered in alcohol from head to toe.  Talk about a hot mess.  I’m just thankful that y’all can’t see how sticky or how matted down my hair really is.  Good thing is….I took a shower, even if it was at 3am…

What happens after a night of drinking water?  You stop at IHOP because you’re starving.  That’s what!  No pancakes for me, though.  …although waking up the next morning wasn’t fun at all.

Twas’ A Fabulous Year {in Pictures}

  • Roomie graduated from the University of Oklahoma.
  • Caught my first Saugeye, sadly it wasn’t a keeper and I had to throw the poor fella back.
  • I learned how to two-step.  I love to go dancing now, wonder why?
  • Sent a few packages overseas to the land of Afghanistan.
  • Baked a ton of muffins one evening just because I was bored.  This happens often.
  • Thanks to Pinterest, I burnt my eyebrows, eyelashes & pieces of my hair off.  Yeah, that was an interesting night.
  • Dressed up my fur kiddos in matching sweaters for Thanksgiving.
  • I saw Justin Moore in concert.  This was my biggest happy moment of the year…I’m quite sure of it!
  • Made the conversion to a HD TV & even sprung for Apple TV 2.  It’s by far been the coolest creation Apple has come up with yet.
  • Attended my first OU Basketball game & actually bought season tickets.  Kinda crazy.
  • I pulled a Geeky moment and dressed up as Darth Vader for Halloween — except I wore a tutu.  Talk about one crazy idea.
  • Hopped on a 4-wheeler a mere 4wks after I did something crazy.
  • As Papaw would put it, I took full custody of Zoe.  Best decision I ever made….mostly because she’s the best snuggle buddy.

2012 looks to be promising.  I’ll be trekking east in a month which I’m sure will spark into weekend trips to Texas starting in July.  Just a few semesters left and I will have my bachelors degree.  Can’t wait to accomplish that, it’s been a hard road to accomplish, but I’m determined to get it done.

Take a Guess

So you’ve all got one guess.  A guess to see where I’m going in a few months.  It’s somewhere I’ve never been before, which makes this trip all that more exciting.  Take a look at these photos and see if you can tell where I’m going.  I’m doubly excited. Maybe a little because of where I’m going…maybe a little because there should be snow on the ground…and maybe a lot because I’m getting to see a friend home on R&R.

We’ve got a shot of this wacky green mascot for the MLB team of which town I’m heading to….

….we’ve got a Bell of some type…..

….and we’ve got a logo of a pretty great team.  A kind of team we just don’t have in Okie Land.

So,  have y’all figured it out yet?

Dustin Lynch :: Wowie…He’s Got a *NEW* Fan

Since you’re not Roomie and have no idea how I act at concerts, let me fill you all in on just how wild I get.  Although, I wouldn’t call it wild…maybe it’s a side of this college girl that rarely pops out.  Not sure what to choke that one up to.  Let’s just say Roomie Once upon a Time …banned me from attending all concerts with her.  You see we saw Dirks Bentley, Keith Urban & Kenny Chesney in concert the year I graduated from High School…eons ago.  I screamed….whooped and hollared…and had a great time.  Actually, I came out of the Ford Center reeking of beer even though I had none.  I had a great time, Roomie did not.  I had agreed to see Jessica Simpson with her if she ever came to OKC if she went to this concert with me.  Low and behold, Jessie came to town.  Which meant I had to go sit through her concert with Roomie — I wasn’t impressed.  Now, I’m banned from seeing concerts with Roomie and thus, had no one to go with me ever again….except my Momma —- who understands my love and uber attraction to Randy Travis.

The opening act to Justin Moore, Dustin Lynch.  He’s a great artist and I’m really looking forward to acquiring his CD when it comes out AND seeing him in concert more.  Hopefully by the time that rolls around I’ll be dating a country fella who loves to go to these types of concerts.  Fingers are tightly crossed!

It sure felt like he was singing in my direction the entire night.  Pretty sure I’m right….

One of my many new favorite songs by him.  Take a listen and you’ll see what I’m taking about, he’s beyond awesome!!

I’m not going to stick captions with all the photos…just take a look for yourself.  He was all over the stage and put on one of the greatest shows I’d ever seen.

Just a short video…wish he would’ve come closer….but then again….there’s always next time.

Can’t touch or wash my hand now!  HE TOUCHED MY FREAKIN’ HAND.  Excuse me while I get a little wound up over this….I was 9 kinds of happy and felt like a wee little kid on Christmas.

Would you just look at him.  All kinds of yummyness….and the best part is….he touched and held my hand.  Sure, there are a lot of girls who fawn over this guy…but I’m extremely happy I got to see someone new in concert.  Made my week!

Great show, Dustin!  Can’t wait for you to come back to Okie Land again.  Majorly excited for his new CD release in a few months….although I’m gonna have a tough time waiting on the release.  His music is just THAT good.

How could one girl be THIS excited for a concert.  Beats me.  Although, I’m almost positive it has to do with the fact that I’ve never done this sorta thing in my life.  Sure, I’d been to concerts growing up.  Sure,  I’ve been front and center before.  I’ve done it all, but getting to live it up and be me…this is what I love!

The coveted Set List for Justin Moore…..get ready y’all the next few posts are sure to be CrAzY.  You just might get a feel for my *love* for country music then……

Concert Madness

First off, I’m a HUGE country music fan.  I’m mostly an old school listener, but on occasion, I’ll listen to the new stuff.  For instance, Justin Moore.  Thank goodness for Facebook cause there just isn’t any way I could have done without this concert.  Especially after y’all see the photos I got.  To.  Die.  For.  I had soooo much fun hanging out on a weeknight at an ole’ country bar.  Made my week actually.  I’m going to try and work on getting videos and as many photos of this concert as I can up and going.  I wanna remember this event too, so I’m sure it might go just a tad overboard at times :)   Thanks for understanding!

Sound checking everything…making sure everything is perfect for the concert.  To say I was a little on edge and overly excited was a tad bit of an understatement.  Ha!

Lights go down and the stage is being set up.  Wasn’t really happy with where I was at…I’m 4 ’10 everyone, I can’t see over everyone.  You’ll see just where I wound up later on.  I’m quite confident it’ll blow you away as to how close I got to see both boys who played that night.

I was a little more than excited.  :)  Thankfully, Roomie didn’t go as I’m sure she would’ve been embarrassed by my hoopin’ and hollarin’ all night long.  I’m not a wild girl by any means, but I do like to have fun sans alcohol.  I’m very grateful for the friends that like country music just as much as I do.  If I didn’t, well I wouldn’t be going to any concerts — ever.

Bobbie Sue & Trevs.  They know how to put up with my little left of center goofy side and do well at poking fun of me too.  Pretty sure they had just as much fun at the concert as I did.  Love you guys!

We picked up a stray on the way to the concert.  Trevs works on the way to the concert and because we had a little bit of a drive and ate before the concert meant that we had to leave a little early —- we had to have good seats you know.

Changed it Upppppp

We all know I’m notorious for changing my hair color….right?  So, it was no different when I played another change up this month.  Turns out October is the back to dark and fall colors.  ….all this fall talk is making me crave Starbucks even more….yumm.

After I Googled and came up with something fun, I made an appointment and we went to town.

Wonder what color I’ll choose this time?  It feels like having braces all over again — except we’re talking about my hair here and not that annoying bands they stick on your teeth in crazy colors.

Any ideas?  I proclaimed I was getting a yellow mow-hawk….that didn’t happen.  Maybe next time, there’s always next time…

Goin’ Out :: Two Steppin’ Craziness

Let’s face it.  I haven’t gone out in ages.  So, I’m reverting back to my college Freshman days and going out every chance I get.  Honest to goodness.  I’m finding out that I’m a little too old for such things as I want to sleep all day the next day and have to find every ounce of energy I have to pull myself together just to go to class.  Such craziness.

Trevs & BSR.  Love them.  We’ve definitely had some great times so far and I’m looking forward to all the more trouble we can get ourselves into.  It’s great to have friends that you can act like a total dork around.  Love you guys!

About to head out for a great night of dancing.  It’s going to be quite the night of fun that’s for damn sure.  Can’t wait to see what all we can get ourselves into.  Greatness is surely ahead of us!

Definitely a Goof Ball. My Freshman Year of College.

Let’s just say, I wasn’t the primo college girl my Freshman year….I learned some important life skills and got a great education outside the classroom.  Perfect year I must say.

After moving out of one dorm and into another my first year, I met a great group of girls and some I still talk to even to this day.  Let’s just say I had a blast this Christmas.

…then you throw the randomness of black hair dye…..a Wal-Mart shopping trip…AND the sporting goods aisle and you’ll have on helluva time.  Trust me…I know these things.  I invented the word fun inside one podunk towns Wally World

Would you look at that grip!  Not to worry, I didn’t technically swing the driver, although I really wanted to…

Deflating the yoga ball.  The one true cause of why I’ve had 2 nose jobs….it’s a crazy story, but I blame that yoga ball for breaking my nose.

Heading out to the only club worth going to in Ada.  At the time it was C4 although, I’m not sure as to what it’s called now.  I’ve heard it’s changed names thousands of times since then, which makes me feel older than dirt.

Another shot from the Christmas Party that year.  We rocked at having a good time that year and looking back now, I’m not sure I’d do anything differently…well other than study more!

What You Didn’t Know About Me

…I can be a bit goofy…and silly…and love to make a mess of things or at least get messy….

I’ve always been blessed to have great friends around at all times.  Even if they were my State Officer team.

I can rock the official dress code of BPA and have my leg wrapped up in a semi-cast from a not so great dance injury so long ago.

Early College Years

Sure, I’ve partied.  Sure, I’ve done things most would have never thought of me doing.  I’ve danced until the wee hours of the morning.  I’ve hung out with friends inside a giant foam mass and had a great time.  I’ve indeed lived up the college lifestyle.

I’ve hung out with friends while living it up too.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’ve had quite the college career and in just a year, it’ll all be over with.  Can’t wait for that day to come!

Yes, I put my actual number on my shirt one night….talk about one crazy college girl.

I {hate} Crutches. The End.

Let’s just get one thing straight.  I. Hate.  Crutches.  With a passion.  Let’s hope that I’ll never ever have to relive being on crutches for months at a time again….well except that one time last year.

Evidence shows.  I’d rather crawl than use my crutches any day of the week.  Who cares if I had to revert back to being a year old.  Who cares if I scuffed up my knees badly.  Who cares if it took forever for me to get somewhere that summer.  Just who the heck cares, as long as I didn’t have to use those God awful crutches I could deal with anything.  Dang, I hated those things!

I may have gotten made fun of a teeny tiny bit.  But, I didn’t care, I was more concerned with the blisters and skin that had rubbed off under my arms.  Let’s just say I was more interested in saving my skin, after all, I’ve had it for 20+ years of my life and it kind of means something to me.

Some odd months later, still on crutches.  It was like my entire Senior year of high school was built upon me using crutches 24/7.  Thankfully those days and by that I mean high school too, are over.  Where has time gone?

Speaking in front of Oklahoma Business Professionals of American Fall Conference.  What a blast that adventure in my life was.  Even if I did have to be on crutches over half of it.  What an accomplishment that was, it still doesn’t seem real that it ever happened.

At least I mastered a few moves on those crutches.  Like being able to put my hands behind my back.  Yep, I’m full of tricks & all sorts of quirky knowings!

….and balancing on one foot and clapping along with my fellow officers….seriously dude, I can say I’ve done that!   Can you?

I definitely wasn’t the tallest of the bunch, now was I?  Heh.  It’s okay, you can be jealous all you want, I certainly would be if I were you!

Eating out as a group.  Had restaurants mastered too….actually, come to think of it, I believe I’ve mastered just about everything to crutches….minus stairs …but that leaves us for a whole ‘nother blogging adventure.  One that I feel just doesn’t need to be opened at the moment.

Sneak Peek….It’ll Make You Pee Your Pants

….See anything in the photo behind me?  I guarantee you, it’ll make you pee your pants when they swim by and you don’t see them until they’re coming right at you.  Gosh, just re-thinking that makes me relive the entire event of seeing that ‘thing’ swim by…right in front of my face….  Whew!  Talk about having a heart attack 100+ miles from home.  I made it home safely and with all of my appendages, so we’re definitely in good shape, y’all.  But, just to keep you on your toes, I’ll be filling you all in later on exactly what I saw yesterday on my trek to the northeast.

Da-Dum…Da-Dum…Da-Dum-Da-Dum-Da-Dum

What a Hottie!

Hanging out with my favorite buddy Kyler.  He sort of looks like he’s wearing makeup and he just might be…sometimes I dunno about that kid.  He’s got the cutest accent and can’t say my name worth a flip, which just makes him even cuter.

What a hottie!  If I do say so myself!!

A Limo Ride to Celebrate Turning 11?

Turning 11 nowadays is such a big deal.  Limos.  Cake.  Candles.  Coke in Champagne glasses.  My 11th birthday wasn’t anything like this.  Since my birthday falls 5 days before Christmas, my birthday usually wound up being surrounded/overshadowed by Christmas and Christmas wrapping paper.  There were plenty of times my parents would have to cancel my party due to me coming down with some icky stomach bug and then there were times when we just decided to move my party to January or February.  But, this is not the point.  The point is, kids today just don’t party like they did back in my day.  Although, I don’t have a photo with the birthday boy it was still a memorable event and one I had fun at.

Hanging out of the top of the Excursion Limo.  Really?  Can you blame the two ‘older teenagers’ who wanted to ride out of the top of the sunroof just like all of those Hollywood movies you see?  No.  You can’t.  It was a great night night being able to participate in a very special friends birthday party.  Cruising around in a limo & sippin’ on some cold beverages (HEY! It was a 11 y/o’s b-day party — no alcohol was served) was definitely an evening to remember, even if I was 22 at the time.

Backseat of the Limo & the only ones who had access to the Sun Roof.  Needless to say our teenage antics played a huge role in many stares & whistling guys that night.  This night was one in a million.  I had a complete blast celebrating an 11th birthday for one special kid, riding around in a Limo hanging out of the top and enjoying slice after slice of pizza and glass after glass of Coke.  Dang, it was a good night.

For the day after festivities, the crew took a trip to Bricktown for some good Mexican food & a little Bass Pro action.  Growing up around a family of hunters, I know how to shoot a shot gun.  It’s not the first thing I jump to when given the opportunity to take a shot at something.  I hate the recoil of shot guns.  I’ve only found one gun I’ve ever liked and I couldn’t even tell you what type of shot gun it was.  Oh well.

And just a reminder at just how young I was.  Single Oklahoma college girl with not a care in the world.  I had a blast celebrating, but I still can’t believe these photos are over 5 years old.  It seems like only yesterday that this event happened.  My oh My, how time flies.

Twilight Junkie, Perhaps?

With the new Twilight movie just around the corner…. it’s time to pull photos from the Eclipse movie I saw a few years ago.  I had such a blast watching the midnight premier of this movie and from then on out I became hooked.  I now love the Twilight series.

It sure was a long night.  I had to take a break and sit on the movie theater floor….

Curly Hair & Babysitting Adventures

My week just doesn’t seem to be slowing down.  Yesterday felt like a shop til’ you drop kind of day.  I ran out of my favorite Curl Power spray, which forced me to go drop a pretty good chunk of change on a new bottle.  I can’t live without this stuff, I’ve been using it since High School and to keep a hair product that long is something out of the ordinary in my world.  Keep in mind, I’ve had this current bottle over a year.  It’s not very often that I wear my hair curly, unless I go to sleep with it wet and then it’s WW III on getting my hair back to normal, or at least to where I can go out in public normal.  If you have curly hair, you probably know what I mean.  I’ve only been able to find this product at Ulta and I’m thankful there is one in Norman so it’s not a huge hassle when I do run out.  I strongly recommend this product, it really works wonders.  A few new things I did pick up are made by Bed Head.  I haven’t used them yet, but plan to soon.  I’ll keep you posted on how they turn out, but from reading reviews I’m sure I’m going to love them.

To add a bit of excitement to my day I also watched my Mini-Me.  Her dad has been calling her my Mini-Me for awhile now, all on account because of her attitude and spunkyness.  Oh yes, this makes me laugh every time I hear it.  Mini-Me is an adorable kiddo (if I must say so myself) I met her back in February and I’ve watched her a few times since then.  She absolutely loves to give kisses.  I first realized this in February when we were taking photos and her parents told her to give me a kiss.  Let’s just say there was more tongue than anything else.  She has since perfected her kissing technique, so I got plenty of them yesterday on both of my cheeks, with and without tongue.  Yesterday did prove it’s new challenges because Mini-Me has learned the word “No” and even more so how to use it.  I did my best not to laugh, but some of the things she said were just too funny.  She kept telling her mom “No more Meds” or when I asked her to put on her shoes the answer was “No”; then she would go get her shoes and put them on.  Crazy kid.  I love her to pieces.  We played, danced and read a few books.  She’s learning how to twirl; something I taught her how to do after we watched Tinkerbell last time.  I love teaching her new things.  She even used a fork almost correctly yesterday while she was eating her dinner.  I’m going to miss her & her family while they’re out of town until October.  All in all I had a lot of fun hanging out with a 20 month old.

Fast & the Furious

I have some of the best friends a girl could ever have.  To get me out of the house, a friend invited me to Dallas the other evening.  It was completely unexpected.  I mean to Dallas and back all in one day and during the week too.  This college girl is living on the edge!  We hit some rough weather just before crossing over into Texas and then it proceeded to rain all the way to Dallas.

We actually didn’t get into Dallas until after 9 and didn’t pull out of Dallas until sometime after 10.  Except this time we had a new toy to play with.  It didn’t take long to fish tail down the interstate while we got used to how the car drove.  Which just meant you can’t accelerate too quickly in Dallas in the rain.  I didn’t see my life flash before my eyes at that moment, but did a few hours later.

You know when you have a Corvette Z06 to play with you must test out all the gadgets and drive as fast as you want.  I’d never rode in an actual Corvette before so I too had to look over the car.  It was uber spiffy, but because I haven’t the slightest idea how to drive a standard, so I can never own one.  Given the opportunity to drive as fast as the car allows is one thing, but it also meant I had to brace myself and grab anything I could hold onto.

I was asked if I was ready to have a little fun, as we proceeded to drive right up next to a new Mustang.  Anyone care to guess what came next?  If you guessed racing, you’re correct.  It was definitely the life flashing before my eyes moment.  I mean flying up I-35 is something I’ve never done and don’t play to anytime in the near future.  Turns out we hit 160, the palms of my hands were drenched and I was shaking like a leaf shortly after we hit 160.  Then I begged to slow down and drive normal.  The Mustang however, didn’t do this and sped by us very quickly.

I’m glad I got to experience this.  I’m thrilled my friends think of me when they go and do things.  It was great to get out of the house and do something just to get away.  I need more days like that.  Carefree and fancy free.  Life is too short, I’m going to start having fun.
